Christmas day isn’t the same without a Christmas playlist with your favorite Christmas songs. The family will love hearing their favorite Christmas songs in the background while opening presents or having Christmas brunch. Everyone will also love singing along to their favorite holiday songs, and even dancing to them. In fact, you could even print out the lyrics of these popular Christmas songs to give to each member of your family to encourage a sing-a-long on Christmas day.
Sometimes you already know which Christmas songs you want on your playlist, but you just need to find the perfect cover of the song by an artist who just gets it right.
We listened to hours of Christmas music to compile this list of Christmas hits (a night well-spent if you ask me!)
It’s easy to create a holiday music playlist, even if it’s already Christmas morning and you forgot to do so. Using Apple Music or Spotify, it should only take you about 10 minutes to create a Christmas playlist of the most popular Christmas songs, especially if someone’s already given you a list of which songs you’ll want to add. That’s why below, we’ve provided a list of 23 of the best Christmas songs everyone loves, in no particular order:
1. “Run Run Rudolph” with Kelly Clarkson
Get ready to smile and dance in your living room to Kelly Clarkson’s upbeat and fun rendition of “Run Run Rudolph.” It goes like this:
“Run, run Rudolph, Santa’s has to make it in town
“Run Rudolph Run” was written by Chuck Berry, but credited to Johnny Marks and M. Brodie due to Marks’ trademark on the character of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It was published by St. Nicholas Music (ASCAP) and was first recorded by Chuck Berry in 1958.
Santa, make him hurry, tell him he can take the freeway down
Run, run Rudolph, reelin’ like a merry-go-round”
This entertaining and festive song definitely belongs on your Christmas playlist.
2. “Sleigh Ride” with Mariah Carey
Of course you know that classic Christmas song that goes,
“Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring-ding-dingling too
The hit song “Sleigh Ride” was written in 1946 by Leyroy Anderson. It was first recorded in 1949 by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra.
(Ring-a-ling-a ding-dong-ding)
Come on, it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you
(Ring-a-ling-a ding-dong-ding)
Outside the snow is falling and friends are calling “Yoo hoo”
(Ring-a-ling-a ding-dong-ding)
Come on, it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you”
Hands down, this might be the most fun Christmas song to sing. This doesn’t mean it’s everyone’s favorite holiday song or the number one Christmas song, but it’s just so fun to sing. (It must be all of those “ring-a-ling-a-ling” lyrics.)
This song is so catchy and uplifting, and that’s what makes it one of the most popular Christmas songs that belongs on your Christmas playlist.
Mariah Carey is very well-known for her amazing Christmas album. Mariah Carey is an out-of-this-world vocalist who nails it every time she records a Christmas song.

So, very nice
I’ll hold your hands, they’re just like ice”

All year for this night

9. “The First Noel” with Carrie Underwood
Another song many people forget to add to their playlist, “The First Noel” is an incredibly calming, beautiful and nostalgic Christmas song. Here are some lyrics to jog your memory:
“The First Noel the Angels did say
One of the oldest Christmas songs, “The First Noel” is believed to have been written around the 1400-1500s, and the lyrics to The First Noël are an adaptation of the original song. The original writer of this amazing song may never be known for sure. William Sandys edited the current form of this historic song, with extra lyrics written by Davies Gilbert.
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep
Noel Noel Noel Noel
Born is the King of Israel!”
I had to listen to quite a few versions of this song before I stumbled upon Carrie Underwood’s shockingly incredible cover of “The First Noel”. I absolutely love it, and I’m not even normally a Carrie Underwood fan.
10. “Ave Maria” with Leona Lewis
Leona Lewis is such a talented singer with the most incredible range, it’s not surprising that her rendition of “Ave Maria” is hauntingly beautiful.
Ave Maria, gratia plena,

Maria, gratia plena,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!”
Mariah Carey’s version of this song is one of the most unique and hauntingly beautiful versions.
15. Bring Back Christmas Day by Noel Ng 吳諾貝
Bring Back Christmas Day is an original Christmas tune that laments about how the magic of the Christmas slowly slips away as you grow older. Soft and mellow – with a tinge of sadness, Noel hopes to share her seasonal melancholy because growing up means that now we the adults have to be the one to create the Christmas magic.
I’ve got my family
I’ve got all the food
I’m really blessed
For that I am thankful
I can’t help feeling just a little blueWhat’s missing this Christmas
“Bring Back Christmas Day” was written and produced by Malaysian independent singer-songwriter Noel Ng 吳諾貝 and released as part of her Christmas EP Noël De Noel in 2023.
