Can health risk reports tell me whether I'll definitely get a specific condition?
Our test is designed to provide information about specific genetic variants that are associated with an increased risk of certain conditions. However, it cannot predict with complete certainty whether you will develop the condition or not.It is crucial to understand that our test is not intended for diagnostic purposes. It offers insights into potential risks based on genetic factors, but a comprehensive evaluation of your health should involve consulting with a healthcare professional. They can consider various factors and provide a more accurate assessment of your individual situation.
Should my family members get tested if my health risk results come back positive?
Conditions in the Common Health Risks panel may have monogenic and/or polygenic components. If a condition has a monogenic component, it means that a single mutation can strongly increase the risk and be passed down or shared among family members. Testing your family members can help identify if they have inherited the mutation and are at risk.Additionally, certain conditions may have a polygenic component, where multiple genetic variants contribute small effects on the overall risk. Predicting polygenic conditions is more complex, and individual risk cannot be automatically extended to the entire family. Each family member has a unique genetic profile, and assessing their genetic profile can provide a clearer understanding of their overall risk.
